Dating for Dummies

So now that I am officially an adult (i.e. live on my own + pay my own bills= adult), I have oftened wondered how I am going to finally meet my king with a ring! Well, watch out MochaBelles, because I just went on a date! Can you believe it? A real date with a grown-up; not a study date with my NYU buddies in Bobst, but a real date.

Okay, now that those who know me and my homebody ways are catching their breath, it's time for some serious discussion.

How are you supposed to conduct yourself on a date? When do you know if you are talking too much or what topics are definitely reserved for date number 3? What do you do if the drunk business mogul at the table next to keeps wispering to his trophy wife that ...hey, I think they are on their first date..?

I need answers from my experienced MochaBelles and MochaMen!

What are the rules for the ancient art of dating?

nothing scares me more now that i have graduated than going on a date with a black woman. college was the ultimate safety net. if i brought a chick to my apt. in college it was like, wow, he's got an apartment. now, if i try to bring a chick to my apt. it might just be like..."this is your place?"

as eligible as i feel like i might be--i gotta say, nothing scares me now more than the prospect of dating professional black women. i might be projecting, but i feel like so many have the expectation that "this negro ain't shit" which all too often manifests itself in the "stoneface."

i mean, i'm trying to be a filmmaker. depending on the week, i might be a waiter or i might be a camp counselor teaching kids about some film stuff. i might go to work w/ an apron on or i might wear a t-shirt. i ain't got no benefits. black professional women don't wanna hear that!!!

and then--the thing you lose with college is--where to meet women. how to meet women. now you really have to go out on a limb and try to get people's attention. you have to talk to people you don't know. damn i don't wanna leave college. the stakes have risen.

i didn't respond to any of your questions, but these things are plaguing me, man!
